As highlighted in a previous post, the
@LAFD's Regional Task Force 9 (
#RTF9) was mobilized on July 30, 2024 by
@CAL_OES to the (nearly 60K acres at this moment)
#BorelFire”
#wildfire in
#KernCounty, California, ~120 miles north of
#LosAngeles.
As RTF9 continues to work tirelessly alongside
@KernCoSheriff in conducting extensive search operations, many have asked about California's
#RegionalTaskForce program and RTF9.
California's *Regional* Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) system is comprised of 12 identically trained and equipped multidisciplinary teams that can be swiftly deployed on a local or statewide basis to focus on locating, rescuing/extricating and providing initial medical stabilization of victims trapped in confined spaces.
Though structural collapse is most often the cause of victims being trapped, responses may also include transportation incidents, mines and collapsed trenches.
Because
#UrbanSearchAndRescue is a “multi-hazard” discipline, California's Regional Task Forces may be summoned to a variety of emergencies or disasters, including earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, storms and tornadoes, floods, dam failures, technological accidents, terrorist activities, mud slides, hazardous materials releases - and as is the case this week: wildfires.
This recent video, featured on
@LACityView35's popular "L.A. This Week", highlights how the men and women of
#LAFD RTF9 train and prepare.
