Open Letter to GED: A Call to Amplify the Constitutional Conversation Dear GED, @MacBelts @TitusTaffy As one of the most influential hosts on X Spaces, you have consistently provided a platform for important conversations affecting Zimbabweans at home and abroad. Your Spaces have become a meeting point for citizens seeking information, debate, and engagement on issues that shape our nation’s future. Today, we write to you as concerned citizens and defenders of constitutional democracy with a simple request: please consider opening an X Space dedicated to the Constitution Defenders Forum (CDF) Town Hall Meeting taking place in Leicester, United Kingdom, on 6 June 2026. The meeting will be addressed by Tendai Biti, @BitiTendai Convener of the Constitution Defenders Forum, and will focus on Zimbabwe’s constitutional crisis, Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), and the future direction of our country. This is not merely another political event. It is an opportunity for Zimbabweans everywhere to hear, engage, and reflect on issues that directly affect constitutionalism, democracy, governance, and the rule of law. Many citizens across the world will not be physically present in Leicester, but through X Spaces they can still participate in this important national conversation. We therefore appeal to you, as a respected host with a large and diverse audience, to stand with this mission by helping broadcast, discuss, or facilitate a Space around this event. Doing so would help ensure that constitutional matters remain accessible to ordinary citizens and that important discussions reach the widest possible audience. This request is not about personalities or political affiliations. It is about creating a platform for citizens to hear different perspectives, ask questions, and participate in conversations about the future of Zimbabwe. As Zimbabweans, we believe that democracy flourishes when information is shared openly and when citizens are empowered to engage with issues that affect them. Your platform has the reach to make that possible. We respectfully ask you to consider this public call and help amplify this important discussion. Our Constitution. Our Rights. Our Future. Yours sincerely, Concerned Citizens, Zimbabweans in the Diaspora, Friends of Zimbabwe, and Defenders of Constitutional Democracy : Regards Scotty: CITIZENS VOICE OUT . @Va_Gotora @Marcie4LOC @munzhoZef @letterztoafrica @ChildOfZimbabwe #RejectAmendmentNo3 #DefendTheConstitution #Zimbabwe #CAB3 #ConstitutionalCrisis

From student unions to former generals, the message is unanimous: CAB3 is an imposed, choreographed mistake. Power belongs to the people, not the elite. We demand a national referendum! 🇿🇼 #RejectAmendmentNo3 #WeTheCitizens @Zinasuzim @mawarirej

ZIMBABWE NEEDS A CITIZENS' GOVERNMENT.. There can be no legitimate government without the consent of #WeTheCitizens who are governed. There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently what is fundamentally wrong. CAB3 is the wrong move, a misguided initiative and a selfish national mistake. Far from delivering value, it is an absolute waste of time and resources. Its consequences will be severe and may ultimately consume those who conceived and championed it. #WeTheCitizens reject CAB3, all its flawed processes and choreographed outcomes. This is the new front of the struggle for a New Great Zimbabwe. The future belongs to organized citizens. We organize. We engage. We build. Come, let us reason together. #NewLeaders #WeTheCitizens

We have done everything the law requires, we notified, engaged, and complied, yet more than 25 of our applications have been denied. This is a clear case of repression. It is a deliberate attempt to shut down civic space and silence the people. But no honeymoon lasts forever, the moment of quiet endurance has passed. Our rights are not granted by the police, they are guaranteed by the Constitution. We will not beg for permission to exercise what is already ours. We move forward, to gather, organise, and speak out peacefully, boldly, and without fear. We will not be silenced. We will not retreat. The Constitution will be defended. #RejectAmendmentNo3

To Development Partners: We urge you to conduct urgent and formal assessments of governance, accountability, and rights compliance in light of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3. The flawed, exclusionary process and the substance of this Bill signal a troubling departure from constitutionalism and democratic norms. Make it clear to the Government of Zimbabwe that such actions undermine the conditions necessary for credible cooperation, transparency, and respect for human rights. #RejectAmendmentNo3

The Constitution Defenders Forum yesterday approached the Civil Court in Harare challenging the decision by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) to block our public meeting in Glen Norah. The matter arises from an unlawful interference with our constitutional right to assemble and engage the public. Judgment in this urgent application will be handed down today 22 April 2026 at 14:00hrs at the Harare Civil Court. #RejectAmendmentNo3

Independence is not merely a historic milestone, it is a living commitment to the sovereignty of the people, expressed through equal participation, equal voice, and equal vote. The promise of independence is hollow if any Zimbabwean is excluded from shaping the nation’s future. One Man, One Vote must remain non-negotiable, and the Constitution must serve as a true reflection of the will of all, without dilution or distortion. Today we reaffirm our duty to defend that promise, firmly and without compromise. A free Zimbabwe is one where rights are upheld, voices are protected, and power remains accountable to the people. We stand resolute for a future grounded in constitutionalism, inclusion, and democratic integrity, where independence is not just remembered, but fully realised. #RejectAmendmentNo3 #DefendTheConstitution

To the Diaspora: Despite being unfairly sidelined in critical national processes, you remain a vital pillar of our society, economy and democratic voice. You must lobby international partners and human rights bodies to highlight the constitutional risks and democratic backsliding posed by Amendment Bill No. 3. Urge friends and family members back home to REJECT this bill. Form unified blocs to petition relevant authorities, asserting your non-negotiable rights to participation, representation, and constitutional protection. #RejectAmendmentNo3 #DefendTheConstitution

The Constitutional Court has set 20 May 2026 as the hearing date for the challenge to Amendment Bill No. 3 in the matter of CDF Freedom Fighters Spokesperson Rebune Zulu and other applicants versus the President of Zimbabwe and Attorney General of Zimbabwe, with legal representation by Professor Lovemore Madhuku. This matter places the amendment process under direct judicial scrutiny at the highest level. At its core, the matter engages foundational principles of constitutional governance, including the doctrine of separation of powers, the rule against conflict of interest, and the integrity of law-making processes. We maintain that both the Bill and the process through which it was advanced are constitutionally defective, politically compromised, and legally unsustainable. It must not be allowed to stand. #RejectAmendmentNo3 #DefendTheConstitution

We are deeply concerned by the continued abductions and unlawful arrests of citizens opposing Amendment Bill No. 3. The abduction of activists for exercising their constitutional rights is unacceptable and must be unequivocally condemned. These acts of intimidation will not silence dissent or break the will of the people. We will not be cowed into submission. The Constitution must and will be defended. #RejectAmendmentNo3
We Send Solidarity to the @DCPYouths leader @EmmanuelSitima7. CAB3 has exposed a regime that fears its own youth. These targeted abductions reflect the rot in government and it is clear that Vocal Youths will fall prey to the state’s brutality. We demand his immediate release NOW

We strongly commends the Zimbabwe Council of Churches for its timely intervention, decisive and principled statement on Amendment Bill No. 3. In rejecting the Bill as constitutionally, morally, and democratically compromised, the Church has spoken with clarity and moral force at a critical moment for the nation. The ZCC’s call for the withdrawal of the Bill, lays bare the gravity of what is at stake. This is not a routine legislative matter, it is a fundamental question of constitutional integrity, legitimacy, and the sovereignty of the people. This is a decisive intervention from a body representing millions, and it reflects a deep national concern about the direction this Bill is taking the country. We echo the same, Amendment Bill No. 3 must be withdrawn in its entirety. The @zccinzim has affirmed what must now be acted upon, the Constitution cannot be altered through a flawed process or for narrow interests. This Bill lacks legitimacy in both process and substance. #RejectAmendmentNo3 #DefendTheConstitution
