I GOT REJECTED 20 MINUTES AFTER SENDING OUT A COLD EMAIL:
Before I typed the title above, I googled cold email... just goes to show how green I am about this whole distribution and marketing 'thing'. But then again, its the first step to "auto-correcting".
I trust my idea so much that i thought, i'd automatically be accepted on the first try (cold email). JOKES ON ME!
THE GRAND IDEA: Reach out to Vibe coding AI platforms that have documentation and api's like
@blinkdotnew ,
@Lovable , and the likes, tell them about the monthly hackathons
@startuptribunal plans to organize for the 1000 plus ideas on their website, and convice them to sponsor the hackerthons. WIN WIN WIN for everyone, oh so i thought!
What is THE hackerthon?
- Generated manually or autogenerated by an LLM. we use the ideas (
startuptribunal.com/ideas) as context to come up with a theme for the month. Hackers(not limited to Developers) add them selves to the platform, and vibe code.
What is THE movitvation behind vibe coding?
- Anyone can "code", AI can code, what we at the
@startuptribunal care about, is Distribution and Marketing. We want to see traction, views, share, likes. Have a look at a sample page here:
startuptribunal.com/hackatho…
How do the SPONSORS win?
1. Africa Market Entry: Exposure to 1000s of African devs (e.g., Ghana/Nigeria/Kenya/Uganda participants)—a growing, underserved region for AI tools.
2. User-Generated Marketing: Require submissions to include an article/video on "How I Built with XYZ's api"—free testimonials/UGC shared across our channels.
3. Affiliate/Indirect Promo: 20% of your sponsorship (e.g., credits) allocated to continent-wide marketing (X ads, newsletters, African dev communities) driving sign-ups.
4. Real-Time Stress Testing & Feedback Loop: As a new platform, every hackathon participant becomes a live tester—hundreds of real builds using XYZ's api under time pressure. You'll get immediate, actionable feedback on agentic AI performance, UI generation, edge cases, and user pain points directly from diverse African builders, helping you iterate faster than private beta users alone.
5. Branded Perks: "Best XYZ-Powered App" track, logo on site/event, winner shoutouts on X/LinkedIn (your reach ours), post-event data on adoption (e.g., Blink usage metrics).
6. Low-Risk Start: In-kind (free months/credits for prizes) from $250—test ROI with one event, scale monthly.
Rejection sucks, but now more than ever, im committed to learning about distribution and marketing the right way.
The truth is, for entrepreneurs, i highly encourage vibe coding to prove a point (MVP), why should you waste time and money, yet AI could simply bring your idea to life..., for show and tell, in less than 24 hours. And later when the assumptions are validated, then maybe, you can bring on a team.
Ill dedicate 10 minutes everythday for the next few weeks, tearing apart the attached "cold email", just so i learn the right way.
Assumptions as to why i was rejected(in context of the cold email):
1. Lack of trust: No legitimate registered LLC attached to the startup tribunal
2. The email has too much information!
3. No traction: Its too early to reach out to sponsors without proving traction
4. Ill share more as i LEARN!
5. Share where your own thoughts in the comment section, im open to constructive feedback!
Lastly, the lesson is to start small, University students, software engineering groups and so on. Organize a hackerthon with prize money(self funded and hopefully sponspored) of 100 to 300 usd. The goal is to beta test the
startuptribunal.com/hackatho… feature, and prepare it for bigger numbers and traffic, and when I send out and a cold email to
@Africastalking, they will hopefully sponsor a monthly hackerthon 😜.
Id like to thank the team at
@startuptribunal for the great work. Lets keep learning on the Job!
