We are told that democracy means "government of the people, by the people, for the people."Then why do citizens have no option when their elected representatives stop working for them?MLAs and MPs seek votes in the name of public service, but many spend their term on political maneuvering, party hopping, power struggles, and self-preservation rather than solving people's problems. If voters can elect them, voters should also have the right to recall them for persistent non-performance or betrayal of the public mandate.Democracy should not be limited to one vote every five years. Accountability must exist throughout the term.
