ALERT ~ WARNING: Target Hit With Double Baby Product Recalls Nara Formula Linked to Infant Botulism, Up & Up Wipes Pulled Over Dangerous Bacterial Contamination Target is facing scrutiny over the safety of its baby products after two separate recalls this week, one for baby wipes containing bacteria and one for baby formula, leaving babies hospitalized with botulism Nara Organics pulled all lots of its Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula from Target stores and its website after three babies in California, Pennsylvania, and Washington developed infant botulism after consuming the formula in April and May. At the same time, Target issued its own voluntary recall of several varieties of Up & Up baby wipes after FDA testing found contamination by potentially dangerous bacteria that can cause severe infections in newborns and young children. The Nara Organics recall centers on the risk of Clostridium botulinum spores, which can produce toxin in the immature digestive systems of infants under one year old. The three affected babies, ranging from 2 to 5 months old, were hospitalized with symptoms including constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids, weak muscle tone, difficulty swallowing, and breathing problems. They received treatment with the antitoxin BabyBIG, and no deaths have been reported. Nara Organics, which manufactures its formula in Europe for the U.S. market, is offering refunds for recent purchases and advising parents to stop using any cans immediately, clearly label any opened cans, and monitor babies closely for symptoms. The @AssociatedPress Reports: People who have the formula are urged to stop using it immediately, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control said in a statement. The formula is manufactured in Europe but sold only in the U.S., it added. The CDC recommended that anyone with an opened can take a picture, record the lot number and use-by date and watch their infants for symptoms. “Label it ‘DO NOT USE’ and keep it stored in a safe place away from other items you feed your baby for at least a month,” the CDC said. “If no symptoms appear after a month, throw the leftover formula away.” Separately, Target announced the recall of its Up & Up Fragrance-Free and Fresh Cucumber-Scented Baby Wipes on June 10 after customer complaints about discoloration and reports of skin irritation, eye irritation, and infections. FDA sampling detected Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli bacteria, organisms that can cause serious or life-threatening infections, including skin and bloodstream infections, sepsis, and pneumonia, particularly in infants and immunocompromised children. Affected products include various pack sizes with specific manufacturing dates from late 2025 into 2026 and expiration dates through 2028. Target, working with its supplier Sapro Temizlik Urunleri, has received multiple adverse event reports and is directing customers to return the wipes to any store for a full refund and to stop using them immediately. Both recalls come at a time when parents are already on edge following the much larger ByHeart infant formula botulism outbreak from late 2025 that sickened dozens of babies across multiple states before being declared over earlier this year. The FDA continues to investigate both cases and urges anyone who has used the recalled items and notices symptoms in their child to seek immediate medical care.
