The best is when I tipped the waiter at the seaside restaurant only to discover afterwards (when I had closer look at the receipt) that they have also included a service charge in it (which is not compulsory to pay and they pull awful faces when you mention you wonโt be paying their set service charge) hence I daftly paid for both. No wonder the guy looked so happy and even asked me if I was sure.
Been only to Rio and Recife in Brazil.
Rio is not very different from Mumbai. The rich have it very easy. The middle class canโt handle the inflation. The poor are generally neglected and manual labour is cheap and not respected.
Recife is a far better seaside resort than anything in India. Definitely far better than Goa.
There are ultra developed parts in Indian cities at par with western standards. But those parts are minute. But we will get there eventually.
What India has that Brazil doesnโt are the Himalayas: very tall mountains with glaciers and perennial snow.
1951, Atami, Shizuoka: a bustling seaside getaway synonymous with tourism in postwar Japan.
