That's the trick.
The SQL is syntactically correct, but an interviewer is usually testing what assumptions you're making.
Questions I'd ask:
- Is department indexed?
- How many rows are in the table?
- What's the cardinality of department?
- Is the comparison case sensitive?
- is this a hot query executed thousands of times per second?
