CORRECTION: With the revelation of #SWQuest's place in the SteamWorld timeline, we now know that high developed steambots existed even before humanity was the dominant species.
Charles Babbage basically "reinvented" Steambots, much like Cranky "reinvented" electricity in #SWDig.
This neat NES game themed #SWDig sticker was given away by @ImageForm during some conventions. It features a little pixelated scene featuring Rusty and a Trilobite that has only been used for this sticker.

Parts of the story of #SWDig is based on the movie "Unforgiven", where the unnamed protagonist arrives in a small western town and needs to fix some problems. This is similar to how Rusty ended up in Tumbleton and caused an economic growth to help the town.
Three #SWDig achievements are direct references to the Eastwood movie "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly":
The Good - Defeat 10 Trilobites before they wake up.
The Bad - Defeat 10 Shiners before they wake up.
The Ugly - Defeat 10 Mecha Trilobites before they wake up.
The subtitle of #SWDig "A Fistful of Dirt" is a reference to the Eastwood movie "For a Fistful of Dollars".
There's also an achievement called "A Fistful of Dirt" which can be unlocked after digging through 15,000 tiles.
According to Brjánn, the cigar was most likely removed to keep the age rating of #SWDig low.
The second to last sprite seems to be the base for the first Rusty artwork (or vice versa), and the second Rusty artwork was most likely drawn to match the final sprite's artstyle.
