When he returned, Firefox and Safari had opened on their own. Fable had built a custom screenshot tool: Python scripts to enumerate windows, filter for Safari, grab the window ID, and use screencapture CLI to grab PNGs.

Claude Fable 5 debugged a UI bug by writing its own screencapture automation, injecting JavaScript into templates, and spinning up a local web server — all without being asked to do any of it.

What happened next: Fable opened Firefox, then Safari, without any instruction to use browser automation. It wrote Python code to find Safari window IDs and screencapture them.
