株式会社タイプバンクの設立は1975年。
ちょうどその頃
印刷業界では
版下工程を自動化するための
自動作図機が普及し始めていました。
一方
CAD/CAMの世界では
1978年に
Gerber Scientificが
最初の製品を発表。
1982年には
Signmaker III が登場し
看板制作のデジタル化が
本格的に始まります。
そして1982年は
Adobe Systems が設立された年でもあります。
当時
印刷業界の書体は
まだドットフォントの時代。
一方
私はカッティングの世界から
ベクトルフォントの必要性に直面しました。
進んできた道は違っていても、同じ時代にそれぞれの分野で書体のデジタル化が始まっていたのです。
