You need there to be a huge mismatch between Defensive and Offensive power in order to have big battleships make any sense (so, like, very strong shields), and you would need a logistical reason why you wouldnโt just have all smallcraft (eg only big ships can have FTL drives).
Underway from Little Creek.
A Six Maritime crew departed this morning aboard a Mk VI Patrol Boat supporting a Michigan Air National Guard transit mission bound for Michigan.
Long-range small craft transits require experienced crews, detailed planning, and operational execution across changing waterways and conditions. Proud to support another mission on the water.

I'm solving burn time because I found out I'm still using arbitrary numbers in my story. I still need to solve for its coast time.
For context, I'm currently writing a science fiction story and I want to calculate the time an intelligence smallcraft spends burning and coasting within 0.5 AU at maximum coast (engine off), and the time to traverse at 12 hours. I need to solve for burn time and coast time with the desired values. I just finished with the former.
The Bartini-Beriev VVA-14 is basically a Star Wars smallcraft if you tweak the wings and tail.
Soviet experimental designs rarely produced great results but they had some absolutely, wonderfully deranged ideas.
Against smallcraft/USV swarms at 5-10km range? possible.
Replace traditional AShM? I don't think so for now at least. slow OWA-UAV can be shot down easily with existing ship CIWS.
NBG CO Capt. John Frye recognized NBG Sailors during an award ceremony at the NBG Headquarters, Feb. 27. Sailors received their Navy Security Forces Specialist Insignia and Smallcraft Insignia respectively.
Congratulations to all awardees, and Hooyah #TeamNBG!
So, I'm meandering, and the actual purpose of the Jupiter and its smallcraft payload is to dispatch rapid projections of military power in a region of space.
The Callisto's extra quirks would make it more versatile and enduring than the Aquarius would be.
I'm recalling Thomas's Four-Quadrant Jayce article and how the Pathfinder uses its smallcraft to help chart a star system. Maybe the same?
But no one would be using a carrier for that. Carriers are expensive to build and operate.
Captain of that ship (sorry, but at 60m it's not a "boat" anymore) has nerves of steel with all that smallcraft darting everywhere around him as he maneuvers that thing into port.
Also, the first smallcraft-based story mission, "The Vault", gives you a freebie Type 8 shuttlecraft, but characters pointedly and repeatedly suggest you should do it with a runabout (*lots* of in-game currency) or a Delta Flyer (real money only).
In designing the FTL rules for Hard//Ship im realizing how much overlap Homeworld has with Star Wars:
ร "hyperdrive"
ร charge it to make it go
ร gravity wells muck with it
x travel outside of non physical space
Hw takes away travel for smallcraft but introduces gates.
