🌱🧪 EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT SOIL pH... BUT WHAT EXACTLY IS IT? You have probably heard people say: 👉 "Your soil pH is too low." 👉 "Test your soil pH first." 👉 "This crop needs a pH of 6.0–6.5." But what does that really mean? 🌍 What is Soil pH? Soil pH is simply a measure of how acidic or alkaline your soil is, using a scale of 0 to 14. 🔴 Below 7 = Acidic Soil 🟢 7 = Neutral Soil 🔵 Above 7 = Alkaline Soil Most crops perform best in soils with a pH between 6.0 and 7.5. 🌱 Why Does Soil pH Matter? Think of soil pH as the "gatekeeper" of plant nutrients. Even if your soil contains plenty of nutrients, your crops may not access them if the pH is wrong. A poor pH can lead to: ❌ Poor nutrient uptake ❌ Slow growth ❌ Yellowing leaves ❌ Weak root systems ❌ Reduced yields ⚠️ When Soil is Too Acidic (pH Below 6) Your crops may struggle to absorb important nutrients such as: • Calcium • Magnesium • Phosphorus The result? 📉 Stunted growth 📉 Poor crop performance 📉 Lower yields ⚠️ When Soil is Too Alkaline (pH Above 7.5) Plants can develop deficiencies in essential micronutrients such as: • Iron • Zinc • Manganese This often results in: 🍂 Yellow leaves 📉 Poor growth 📉 Reduced productivity 🛠️ How to Raise Soil pH If your soil is too acidic: ✅ Apply Agricultural Lime (Calcium Carbonate) Lime neutralizes acidity and helps bring the soil back into the ideal growing range. 🛠️ How to Lower Soil pH If your soil is too alkaline: ✅ Apply Elemental Sulfur ✅ Use acidifying fertilizers such as Ammonium Sulfate These materials gradually increase soil acidity and improve nutrient availability. 📌 The Secret Most Successful Farmers Know Before buying fertilizer...
