The Ease of Doing Solar (EODS) 2025 report highlights Tanzania’s strong energy momentum. With total installed electricity capacity at approximately 2.28 GW (2024) and demand growing at over 4% annually, the country’s energy needs across households and productive sectors are expanding rapidly. Tanzania’s vast solar potential, among the strongest globally, presents a significant opportunity to scale clean, decentralised solutions. As solar currently represents a small share of the energy mix, accelerating deployment can unlock cost-effective energy access while strengthening energy security and easing pressure on public finances. ☀️
It is in this context that the STAR Centre in Tanzania represents a timely and strategic investment in the country’s energy future.
Officially commissioned on 22 April 2026 at
@ArushaTechnical College, the Centre is strengthening hands-on solar skills and institutional capacity where it matters most. The commissioning was accompanied by targeted Operations & Maintenance training for college staff, covering solar hybrid, home, lighting, and water pumping systems, with practical orientation on system functionality, maintenance, and tools.
As the energy transition accelerates, skills are as critical as technology and finance. STAR-C Tanzania is therefore institutionally embedded within a national public technical university, ensuring long-term continuity, curriculum integration, and sustained impact. The Centre will serve students, technicians, private sector actors, public officials, and community-level practitioners, closely aligned with national energy and skills priorities.
Looking ahead, the Centre is poised to evolve into a national hub for applied solar skills, delivering training on rooftop solar PV, decentralised asset O&M, solar water pumping, and mini-grid fundamentals.
Momentum continues next week, with a new STAR Centre launching at
@BusitemaUni during the ISA-led Uganda mission, bringing the total number of operational STAR Centres to 12.
Stay tuned for updates.
