I signed the paper today,
not in anger but release.
Not to end a love,
but to give it space to breathe.
She and I were never enemies,
only mirrors too bright for each other’s eyes.
Her pain could not bear my calm,
my calm could not survive her storm.
I spoke softly, hoping truth
would sound like safety.
But her heart heard blame
where I whispered care.
I’ve watched her flee from feeling,
watched guilt bend her spine,
watched pride wrap her in armour
that keeps love out and ghosts in.
I know the weight she carries
the court case, the shame,
the memories that claw her nights,
and the guilt that I, too, carved in.
So I let her go
not because love has died,
but because love has grown wise enough
to stop demanding what pain cannot give.
She needs room to find her rhythm,
to heal without my shadow,
to see her own reflection
without comparing it to mine.
And I
I need peace,
to live, to love, to breathe again
without trying to fix what must first unfold.
This isn’t failure.
It’s sacred mercy.
A love unbound,
so we may both become whole.
And somewhere beyond all this,
beyond right or wrong,
there’s a quiet understanding between us
that the bond we forged was real,
and no distance can unmake it.
Whatever shape it takes from here,
it will still be love
just moving differently,
through different lives,
until its purpose is complete.
