Today is St. Swithin’s Day. It is said that if it rains today then we will have forty more days of rain. St. Swithin was the Bishop of Winchester from 852 to 862 AD and spiritual advisor to AEthelwulf. With his last breath he is said to have requested that his final resting place be outside where his grave could be easily reached by the rain from heaven. However on 15 July 971 his body was exhumed and interred in the newly restored Winchester Cathedral. As well as all the forty days of the same weather business #StSwithin also miraculously mended some broken eggs. A slow news day miracle admittedly but it did mean he never had to check his egg cartons at the supermarket, time which really added up over a whole life.
