State of Origin Game II Preview:
The 2026 State of Origin series heads to the MCG on June 17 with New South Wales just 80 minutes away from wrapping up the shield, while Queensland arrive desperate to keep the series alive.
After edging the Maroons 22-20 in a thrilling opener, the Blues carry momentum into Melbourne, but both teams will have a different look following selection changes, injuries and tactical reshuffles.
For NSW coach Laurie Daley, the focus has been on strengthening an already successful side. The biggest boost comes with the return of Mitchell Moses, who missed Game I with a hamstring injury. If declared fit, Moses will partner Nathan Cleary in the halves.
The Blues have welcomed back Payne Haas & Api Koroisau to replace Jacob Saifiti & Blayke Brailey. Stephen Crichton ruled out through injury which opens the door for Casey McLean. Mark Nawaqanitawase is a potential debutant while Dylan Lucas will make his Origin debut after replacing Haumole Olakau’atu in the squad.
Queensland headline inclusion is Reece Walsh, recalled after missing the series opener. The Maroons have also brought back Murray Taulagi and added Kulikefu Finefeuiaki following the injury to Patrick Carrigan. Briton Nikora has earned a starting role, while Queensland’s forward pack has undergone a significant reshuffle as Slater searches for more impact through the middle.
The Maroons will be desperate and dangerous, but if the Blues win the middle third battle, they have every chance of sealing the series in Melbourne but I just see the Maroons taking it to a decider.
Prediction: Queensland Maroons
