Ethereum dapp "Status" collaborates with Linea on Layer 2 network
Status, an Ethereum-based decentralized messaging platform, is partnering with Consensys-backed Linea to introduce a Layer 2 rollup solution.
Status(
@ethstatus) raised $100 million in its 2017 ICO for its native
$SNT token. Meanwhile, Linea (
@LineaBuild) was launched last year as a
#zkEVM Layer 2 blockchain backed by the blockchain development firm Consensys (
@consensys).
Together, they are developing a Layer 2 network that will operate alongside Linea’s zkEVM chain, known as the
#StatusNetwork, according to a press release shared with The Block. “By launching Status Network, we envision creating the infrastructure needed to support a thriving, decentralized ecosystem of apps and services,” said Cyprien Grau(
@0xcyp), a core contributor at Status.
Furthermore, Status contributors will interact with Linea’s(
@LineaBuild) open-source code, actively engaging with its codebase to manage a parallel version.
Status’s team will also support the ongoing engineering work on Linea, focusing on diversifying client and prover support and interoperability between Status Network and Linea.
“Our collaboration with Status(
@ethstatus) is a natural fit, given their contributions to core Ethereum operations and their consumer-facing focus through the Status app,” Nicolas Liochon, Linea Global Lead, said. Status-developed Nimbus, a popular consensus client on Ethereum, will adapted to function as a Linea client.
The partnership will concentrate on decentralizing the sequencing and proving processes for Linea and support initiatives in public funding, social applications, GameFi, and governance experiments.
