Amathole District Municipality (ADM) convened its District Mayors Forum (DIMAFO) on 11 June 2026 in Stutterheim, Kolorha. The meeting brought together Executive Mayors, Mayors, Municipal Managers, government departments, external stakeholders, and key sector representatives to strengthen intergovernmental relations and advance collaborative service delivery initiatives across the district. Opening the session, ADM Executive Mayor, Councillor Anele Ntsangani, reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to enhancing partnerships with government sectors and stakeholders to ensure sustainable, community-driven service delivery. He emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts in addressing challenges facing the district and its six local municipalities while driving development initiatives that improve the lives of ADM communities. In his opening remarks, Councillor Ntsangani acknowledged the challenges experienced by both the district and local municipalities but highlighted that the pursuit of service delivery excellence remains a key priority. He further noted the municipality's improving financial position and celebrated the significant milestone of the institution approving a funded budget for the forthcoming financial year. "This is a year of solving challenges to ensure continuous stability and an operational district municipality," said Ntsangani. The Executive Mayor further stressed the importance of having a positive and solution-oriented approach among government institutions and stakeholders. He called for the dismantling of negative attitudes that hinder progress and encouraged all role players to embrace collaboration as a catalyst for meaningful development.

He was 20. 17 May 1980: 75546218BA Rifleman Michael Cecil Vorster from the Dog Training Centre at Bourkes Luck was killed after suffering multiple injuries in a private motor vehicle accident in Pretoria while on weekend pass. He was 21. 17 May 1981: Signaler Albert Peter Jordaan from the Army Signals Training Centre at Heidelberg was killed in a private motor vehicle accident between Heidelberg and Grootvlei, on the N3. He was travelling home on a weekend pass after standing guard duty the whole night. He was 18. 17 May 1988: 77582203PE Sergeant Douglas Keel from 1 Special Forces Regiment was killed in a private motor vehicle accident on the Whittlesea to Queenstown road. He was 26 17 May 1991: 89749535PD Rifleman Antonio Joao Sampaio from 32 Battalion was Killed in Action after being struck in the neck by an AK-47 bullet fired from an unknown gunman while he was on foot patrol in Tokoza Township. As a result of his death, an automatic activator was installed on all sport parachutes. Two men who extorted foreign business owners in Stutterheim, Eastern Cape, by demanding “protection fees” and threatening kidnappings, have been convicted and sentenced in the Stutterheim Regional Court. The investigation began in August 2023 after information was received about a group targeting foreign nationals. Police Kidnapping investigators conducted an operation on 24 August 2023, during which two suspects were arrested after collecting money from a business owner. The accused, 36-year-old Aviwe Jacob and 38-year-old Mzimkhulu Rayibo, were convicted of extortion on 11 May 2026 and sentenced on 13 May 2026. Both were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years on condition they are not convicted of extortion during the suspension period. They were also declared unfit to possess firearms in terms of the Firearms Control Act.
