Over the years, many foreigners have asked me whether they should come to SA on holiday. My answer is always "no". One of the most irresponsible things our politicians do is "encourage/develop tourism", while SA is a (sometimes the) top murder and rape mecca in the world.

The United Kingdom is beginning to resemble the regime in Iran in terms of sheer censorship and willingness to invade everyone's privacy. I'm not kidding. This is what real creeping authoritarianism looks like.

Children were starving in orders of magnitude higher numbers during the era when it was impossible for people to become fabulously wealthy through economic (not political/military) means. Oh, and children starved and continue to starve at far higher rates in socialist states.
No, the left are not Jealous of Elon Musk, We don’t want to be trillionaires. We want a world where children aren’t starving to death whilst trillionaires hoard money.

At some point Britons will need to realise that the constitutional "conventions" and political "customs" they are so proud of haven't actually been around for for some time now. Their government is brazenly choosing economic winners and losers now, just like it (Tory/Lab) runs an openly discriminatory "justice system".

Some people would call it "cyberpunk" or "dystopian", but I desperately hope at some point in the future, when governments send these kinds of "requests" to private (read: p r i v a t e) companies, those companies would feel confident enough to respond simply with: "NOted."
‼️🚨 BREAKING: Amazon researchers snitched to the US government about jailbreaking Fable 5 and Mythos 5, forcing Anthropic to immediately shut down worldwide access. A security export control directive from Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick enforced the action. Anthropic is fighting the directive and calls it a misunderstanding. This isn't the first clash. The Trump administration had already tried to get Anthropic to pause the release of its latest models before this directive landed.

Hopefully, since this is *his* platform for Mayor - not the police minister's platform - GHL means that he, as mayor, qua mayor, will take the initiative on "stronger policing", and not send another letter of polite request to Pretoria for favour.

You will always be remembered for renaming Graaff-Reinet. And the DA will always be remembered for simply saying “the correct processes weren’t followed”.

You’d think they’d be thrilled that the world’s first trillionaire is a literal African-American.

Enough money is allocated annually to the basic education sector in this country. There should be no shortage of public schools. But when primitive looting is the order of the day, not even the future of innocent children is spared. And before you know it, the few good schools that are ran by SGBs have to bear the burden.

I know you’re a DA guy and that’s all good, nobody’s perfect - but jumping to the defense of Commie Coetzee is probably unwise. Is or isn’t there proposed land expropriation as claimed? If there is then how is this defensible? If there isn’t then what is being objected to? As to the statement: - “You can’t complain about property prices being too high and also object to new housing developments” - Actually you can. And who is complaining about property prices being high? Certainly not property owners. The complaint is actually that the City uses high property prices (private investments) as an excuse to continuously increase taxes for the same or lesser services. “You cannot want better public transport and also object to densification” - Actually you can. Firstly where have the residents of this area asked for more public transport? Most have their own transport. Secondly why must public transport and densification go together? If the only way to make public transport feasible is to place people into ever shrinking land areas then perhaps it’s just not viable. “You cannot want a city that attracts investment and also object to urbanisation.” - Actually you can. Hundreds of cities around the world attract investment and don’t convert their green spaces into low/medium cost housing. See, Ryan is very sure of himself but he’s so often wrong that despite trying he can no longer get employment outside of South Africa. Even the global Left with which he aligns won’t employ him, and yet the DA thinks he will somehow lead them to a different place than where he took the Lib Dems/Remain in the UK or his astroturfed communist campaign in Hong Kong (spiked-online.com/2020/07/07…). Nobody in the DA needs to defend an open leftist who believes in everything from the trans agenda to climate change hysteria. Just because a small elite group still decides which way to steer the party does not mean anyone should prostrate themselves at the feet of a failure and enemy of liberalism itself.

Mehdi is a bit emotional right now, but allow me to help you all understand what he means. In Europe and the UK, for at least half a century now, their "far-right" would elsewhere be known as the "centre-left". Musk is amplifying the centre-left against the radical left.
He's literally using his insane wealth right now to fund and amplify the far right in the UK.

“Elon Musk is a trillionaire.” As a securities law attorney, please allow me to explain how anyone who says this is basically lying to you: 1. The Securities and Exchange Commission has a myriad of laws that prevent founders and other large stockholders of publicly traded companies from dumping their shares. There are substantial holding period requirements, volume of sales limitations and public reporting obligations for stock sales. Basically, Elon holds largely illiquid shares, he is a “trillionaire” on paper only, and the best analogy is when people peg your net worth based on your home’s market price. That’s not money in your pocket, that’s the house you live in. 2. All that money raised in the IPO? That’s not going into Elon’s pocket like the lying socialist idiots want you to believe. It’s a capital influx that will be used to make more rockets and get more payloads into orbit. It’s a CAPITAL investment—that money is like a business loan, it’s not your money to keep, it’s your money to grow the business. 3. If it WERE legal for Elon to dump his shares, the share price would crash basically instantly and the company could very well fail. If you bought SpaceX shares in the IPO, congrats. You just bought a lottery ticket, just like Elon. May the odds ever be in your favor. So the next time someone screeches about how unfair it is that Elon Musk creates wealth that benefits all of humanity, throw the truth back in their faces.

This kind of thing shouldn't be tolerated. Governments are going to engineer outcomes where only the parasitic political class has access to the best models while everyone has gets more limited models. This has things backwards. If anyone must be limited in AI, it's the state.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

In Africa, the politicians who amass vast amounts of wealth through primitive looting are celebrated and paraded as symbols of 'black excellence'. The capitalists who actually create real value for society and the world at large are dismissed as evil, greedy people who deserve to be taxed to death.

No, you don't get it. He does not have $1 trillion sitting in cash, it is 99% stock in his companies. To make that wealth liquid would mean selling all that stock which would swiftly destroy *both* the companies (Tesla, SpaceX, others) and the wealth. If he sold it all, he'd end up with maybe $100b max, several hundred thousand people would be out of work, the companies ruined and many of their suppliers also ruined. Okay, but now Elon has $100b in cash, and can "solve the world's problems". $100b divided by the world's 8 billion people is $12 If you were in charge, several of the most innovative industrial companies in the world would be destroyed, hundreds of thousands out of work, and space would again close to human civilization for another generation. But everyone on earth could have one nice meal and you could revel in your altruism.

Spoken like only someone born in the West with a golden spoon in their mouth can. The fact that some random kid from Pretoria - not a member of royalty/conquering general - can become the first dollar trillionaire is testament to how hugely humanity is succeeding as a species. Before the possibility of multi-billionaires - starting with the Industrial Revolution and capitalism - your fate was guaranteed by birth. After the notion that someone can go from poverty to immense wealth came about, humanity has only grown more prosperous as a whole. Any dips or exceptions or temporary reversals to this has been due to politics, always politics.
Call me a hater but I think living in a world where both trillionaires and global poverty coexist is a sign humanity has failed as a species

I will forever by grateful to Elon Musk for sharing AfriForum's documentary about race laws, the threat of expropriation without compensation, and farm murders in South Africa, and rocketing it to 43 million views 🚀

South Africa has now passed 142 laws forcing discrimination against anyone who is not black! Even though I was born in South Africa, the government will not grant @Starlink a license to operate simply because I am not black. This is a shameful disgrace to the legacy of the great Nelson Mandela who sought to have all races treated equally in South Africa.

No, Adam Mockler didn't support the Libertarian candidate in 2024 - since, you know, "no individual should have this much power" - instead, he supported Joe Biden. If you think Elon Musk is an individual with too much power, wait until you check out the Office of the President.
No individual should have this much power.
