That is a very interesting dataset. As for the interpretation: I'd say the authors have forgotten about other types of waves (not seismic) that should be there (see Cox & Jacobs 1989, doi.org/10.1029/GL016i008p00…). I'm looking forward to some detailed modelling of all these.
