Bad software, impractical idea, or sheer incompetence on the part of @ShivNadarUniv’s IT staff! My son tried to appear for the institute’s online entrance test for admission to an undergraduate economics course previously on 8 February. The TalView software never worked, but the university staff desperately tried to blame our internet connection; I happen to subscribe to Airtel’s top broadband facility. They asked whether it was a firewall, an antivirus software or a VPN affecting TalView’s functionality. It was none. I gave my son my superfast laptop, regularly updated, which has never failed me during any online activity. Even that did not work. Repeated attempts to connect failed. Frustrated, my son took today’s date. But it’s the same story on loop all over again. Yesterday, they asked my son to be online at 12 noon for the test scheduled at 2 PM. At 12, they asked him to establish contact at 1:30 PM instead. At 1:30, rather than sorting out the issue, my son’s terminal was muted. Nevertheless, when he tried to appear for the test at 2, the time for the link provided to him had lapsed. He was told he was late. My son has been given another time: 4:30 PM, but I am not hopeful it will work out. --- If the problem isn’t with the Shiv Nadar University staff, it’s with the idea of relying on the named unreliable software. Common issues with Talview online test software include technical glitches like unresponsive pages, camera/microphone permission errors, and browser incompatibility, often leading to interrupted tests. It’s not a browser issue. It’s not a connectivity issue. It’s not an operating system issue. It’s not a forbidden application issue. It’s not a camera/mic permission issue. It’s not a proctoring failure issue. It’s not a VPN, ad blocker or password manager issue. It’s just a bad idea. The idea couldn’t be of the IT guys; it is of the top management. I was advised not to make this post, but I have given up hope.
