After what seems like the longest 20 minutes of our lives, we return to Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue in Willemstad, Curacao, with the final pails of sand for our Detour task. The 🚩race🚩 official motions for us to enter the synagogue.
Inside, the sanctuary is arranged in a traditional manner, with the ark containing the Torah (Bible) Scrolls in front, a central platform for performing the service, and a grand balcony with a massive (not-so-traditional) pipe organ. The dark carved wood contrasts against the brass fixtures and white washed walls, creating an austere feeling. And on the floor... sand! You wince a little at the sight, after having carried 200 pounds of it through the streets of Willemstad!
The rabbi greets us with a traditional blessing, "Baruch Ha-Bah," and gives us our next 🟨clue envelope🟨.
We waste no time in ripping it open...
