i did my thesis on the gaps in the elections collation systems , at one time we were using fax and everyone was fine with it .
if you fix the *alleged* mistrust issues the parties have the EC , u can easily deploy tools
Occasionally, I think about how we’ve made the collation of election results so complex and sometimes even life-threatening. Why do we still rely on collation centers when technology has advanced so much?
For example, why can’t the Electoral Commission use a voter management system where results from pink sheets, once verified at the polling station, are entered into a secure web portal that automatically does all the needed calculations? You could have two people independently enter the same data as a control measure, while the physical pink sheets remain as backups. The system itself would then be the single source of truth. Data from this system is available in near real-time and that’s what everyone relies on.
Can’t we, as a nation, agree to streamline election result collation once and for all?
