🇮🇳 India just confirmed it can shoot down an ICBM.
DRDO completed final Phase-II BMD trials on June 10 and 11, using two interceptors named AD-2 and AD-1 to hit targets both outside and inside the atmosphere.
Here is what this means:
• AD-2 destroys threats in space at Mach 6 to 7 before warhead re-entry
• AD-1 handles the inner atmosphere intercept as a second layer
• This directly counters China's Dongfeng missiles and Pakistan's MIRV capable Ababeel
• India's BMD programme started in 1999, first successful test was in 2006
• Phase-III has already begun, with two new interceptors called AD-AH and AD-AM
Phase-I already shields Delhi and Mumbai.
Phase-II extends that shield against much faster, longer range threats.
🇮🇳 And Phase-III is built for hypersonic weapons and MIRVs before anyone else even fields them.
