How was the final day in Milan? Visionary, vibrant, and packed with possibility. Our Design students began the day at the IKEA showcase, where sustainability took centre stage. From reducing food waste to conserving water and energy, students saw how thoughtful design can make a real-world impact. With sustainability at the heart of Heriot-Watt University, it was energising to see these values brought to life on a global scale. Next stop: Palazzo Litta, where Delta Light’s showcase turned light into an immersive experience. Alongside dramatic lighting installations, students explored inventive design across furniture, taps, and even plant pots- proof that innovation thrives in the details. At the Kerastase exhibit, the focus shifted to customer experience. For our Fashion Branding and Promotion students, it was a masterclass in blending AI, sensory design, and storytelling to create meaningful brand interactions. Midday brought a moment of calm at the Marimekko exhibit. Students stretched out on a giant bed surrounded by a soundscape mimicking city life behind glass. Designed for mindfulness, this peaceful installation quickly became a favourite- though the chance to rest tired feet certainly helped. To end the day, students explored the Asus and Kia showcases. Asus highlighted movement and utility in design, while Kia offered an ethereal take on material fragility and lasting impact. Both exhibits challenged students to think beyond the surface. It was a packed and powerful final day. As our students return to Dubai, they do so with fresh perspectives, bold ideas, and memories that will fuel their creative journeys ahead. #MilanDesignWeek #SustainableDesign #TextilesAndDesign #FutureCreators #CreativeExploration #DesignInnovation
