DUST is used to pay for actions on the network, including processing transactions and interacting with smart contracts. Unlike typical gas tokens, DUST is shielded and cannot be transferred between users, which helps protect transaction metadata. DUST is also renewable it is generated by holdings of NIGHT and burned when used for transactions.
