The twist: even when you want to quit because it’s too much, you can’t—because people depend on you. Page 44 Panel 1 Zion sees The Glitch blasting another Pro Gamer to smithereens with a Photon Energy ball. Zion (Thinking): I’ve failed countless missions ever since I became a Pro Gamer. On my first mission, I let over 100 civilians die, and that mistake defined my career. But it wasn’t the deaths that really haunted them. No, what really pissed everyone off was that I wasn’t my father. They cared more about that than the lives I couldn’t save. Most Pro Gamers make enough off their missions to take care of their families. Me? I’ve never completed a single mission successfully. Panel 2 Another Pro Gamer getting slashed down. Zion (Thinking): I’ve had to rely on my aunt’s food stamps just to eat. My clothes are worn down… And I can't even afford to dry them after hand-washing. So, I wait for everyone to go to sleep, and I dry them in the oven. I feel utterly pathetic, but I keep going, hoping for some kind of profit for my family. Panel 3 Zion with immense fear on his face, looking like he is going crazy. Zion (Thinking): But… I didn’t realize how much of myself I was losing along the way. Panel 4 Zion looks psychologically spaced out. Zion (Thinking): There’s no point in enduring all this pain if I’m just going to keep failing. I promised myself this would be my last mission if I failed again, but none of that matters now. Looks like I’m not going to make it out alive anyway.
