“The Sky You Left Behind”
Through the dark sky,
the clouds shifted,
a sudden tear in the grey,
and there it was
a bright blue spot,
clear as memory,
gentle as your final sigh.
I knew it was that time.
Somewhere beyond what eyes can see,
you took your last breath,
and the air around me stilled.
Panic first,
a tightening in my chest,
a grasp at something already gone.
Then sadness,
deep, aching, endless,
filling the hollow you left behind.
But beneath it all,
like sunlight breaking through storm,
a quiet relief whispered;
you’re free now.
No more pain,
no more worry,
no more regret,
just peace,
the kind I hope to know someday.
So I stand beneath the sky you left behind,
watching that blue widen,
and I wait,
for a sign,
a feather,
a whisper,
a flicker in the wind,
to know you’ve reached
the next horizon,
and found peace
where the light never fades.
