Self-care as a practice… I recently re-discovered the word “practice” and I’m in love with it ☺️. I love that it’s both a noun and a verb! And I love that it implies a growth mindset and a commitment - the more you practice, the better you get.
While we specifically call some things a practice - eg. yoga practice or piano practice, everything is a practice really. Being an amazing, loving and present mom - that’s a practice. Being an amazing partner - loving, generous and creative - that takes practice. Being a kickass investor? Being a pro at raising money? It just takes practice!
Self-care too is a practice. Sure, you can practice it once a year when you go on a fabulous vacation, but I’ve been trying to build it into my everyday routine.
Meditate and journal every morning. Make time for restorative exercise like yoga or Pilates during the week. Create space in my calendar to reset. And unapologetically spend time with my loved ones.
Do I score an A on this everyday? Absolutely not. But as on my birthday, I am committed to my practice of self-care and will practice!
Ps. Thank you Trevor Timbeck for showing me that everything we do (and speak) is a practice!
So what are YOU practicing ?
