Made in India - a Titan Story! The screen glowed softly, and just like that, I was transported back to 1989.
I am in my 2nd year MBA. It's School of Management, Pondicherry, a tiny, fledgling B-School with a campus the size of a modest 4 bedroom house and I am preparing for a campus interview. And guess what - it's the biggest, best, most flamboyant hirer of the day - Citibank N. A, coming to campus! Buying a watch was - at that time - a fairly important decision and during that particular year, for my family, it was a big financial decision too. My Amma got special permission from my Appa to buy this for me. I didn't accompany her to the store - back then we didn't.
I was young, ambitious, and full of dreams I barely understood. And when I opened the box, I fell in love 💕
Its sleek rectangular case, classic Roman numerals, and understated vintage logo at 12 o’clock carried the quiet grace of that era. As I wore it to the interview and landed the biggest job offer on campus, my Titan watch not only became my companion but also a witness to my journey!
And as I watched "Made in India", I realised that the bold “QUARTZ” marking and delicate early movement details speak of something deeper: the courage of a team that dared to build India’s own watchmaking legacy with precision and pride!
Big, big kudos to dear friend
@Kamathcometh! What a story! Hearty congratulations to you on being the architect of telling this story so many years ago! What a time! What a spirit!
I am very proud that when that young girl of 21 wore that watch, she wore not just a legacy timekeeper, but a piece of history! It ticked steadily through my hopeful beginnings, late nights, big ideas, my marriage, motherhood and career break and remained calm and faithful when life grew difficult. And years later, when I decided that my own return to a career should serve as a template for the hundreds of thousands of women whose careers we enabled, my Titan seemed to celebrate with me as
@avtarcc came into being! A beautiful full circle.
And after 25 years of Avtar, as I watched the Titan pioneers’ remarkable journey on screen, it was a reminder 🔥
A timely reminder that relentless determination will always find a way! That vision, persistence, and quiet resolutness will always succeed!
And most importantly, that dreams don’t fade with time!
No, they don't.
They deepen.
They endure.
And today, this 1989 Titan still rests warmly on my wrist - a graceful symbol of where I started, what I’ve weathered, and the meaningful work we continue to build!
