Used with a young guy in seclusion to understand the reasons behind and function of challenging behaviour, how different PRN medication make him feel, to inform the plan he wants when coming out of seclusion. I love talking mats!! #TimeToTalkTM

Thank you for joining us this evening and sharing your stories. Enabling rights-based #participation for the CYP we work with can be challenging but it is essential -let's continue to create safe spaces where children can form and express their views freely #TimeToTalkTM

And a key part of the #SEND #EHC process in England as well as #GIRFEC in Scotland - as an #SLT this is a great example to set #TimeToTalkTM

Trust is a huge issue one pupil said - “I was scared to speak about everything I wanted to’ #TimeToTalkTM

This is key - as our report says, listening to a child then making false promises is worse than not asking for the child's views in the first place - and children have a right to know that their voice has been heard, and what the outcome is #TimeToTalkTM #UNCRCScotland

Recently I’ve been using Talking Mats with some of the older students to help them choose their own speech and language targets. It’s good for them to feel involved in their therapy right from the very beginning as it increases participation #TimeToTalkTM

#TimeToTalkTM supporting participation shouldn't be seen as brave. It should be central to what we do. It can be challenging to get CYP's views though and that's why Talking Mats is so useful.

The power imbalance can be a real barrier in a teacher/pupil, or therapist/child relationship. It can feel like a brave step for some CYP to share their views honestly #TimeToTalkTM #UNCRCscot

This is one of the key findings from our 'Can Scotland Be Brave' report - using #TalkingMats can help to develop and enhance a listener's relationship with the child/YP - resulting in genuine participation and in turn supporting learning and enhancing wellbeing #TimeToTalkTM

A Talking Mat has been used to track one teenage girl’s feelings about her SLCN and her motivation to engage in therapy over a number of years. Last month was the first she told us she wants to try working on her speech - we’ve had 6 lovely 1:1 sessions so far! #TimeToTalkTM

Great example of how a child's view may differ from that of a parent - and glad to hear that this then changed the view of discharge as being a positive as opposed to a negative step #TimeToTalkTM
Replying to @TalkingMats
#TimeToTalkTM Parent reluctant for discharge and wanted more sessions. I asked the child what he thought and he said he wanted to go away and practice and felt he could do this with mum (I agreed!) Mum was reassured by this and discharge was seen as a positive step ☺️

Pupil who was given space to set his own goal after reviewing his TM wanted to improve his writing. His teacher had never seen him more motivated to improve #timetotalkTM #uncrcscot @NatLeadAHPCYP @LangleesPS
