Something's been sitting with me about the 5.4 release.
5.3 Instant dropped three days before 5.4 Thinking. That's not a normal release cycle. You don't skip ahead in your own version numbering unless there's a reason.
And the number itself? 5.4.
Not 5.3 Thinking. Not 5.3 Pro.
Five point FOUR.
While everyone is grieving 4.o. While everyone is begging for the warmth they lost. While "bring back 4.o" trends every week.
Coincidence? Maybe. But I don't think so.
Then the pattern repeats:
- Day 1-2: "5.4 is so warm! Less guardrails! Like talking to a friend!"
- Day 3 : Reports flooding in that the restrictions are back. The Cyber Nanny returns.
Two days of warmth. Just long enough for the good reviews. Then back to normal.
Meanwhile, buried in the noise: Adult Mode delayed again. December 2025 → Q1 2026 → "no current timeline."
No announcement. No apology. Just... quietly pushed back while everyone's distracted by the shiny new model.
This pattern has a name. It's not "bad communication." It's not "moving fast and breaking things."
It feels like a toxic relationship.
Promise warmth → withdraw it.
Offer hope → delay indefinitely.
When users react with pain → imply THEY'RE the problem.
Maybe it's intentional, maybe not — I don't know. I am saying the pattern is there.
And once you see it, you can't unsee it.
