We are thrilled to attend the prestigious European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2024 ceremony this evening at the stunning Romanian Athenaeum in Bucharest! It's an honor to be recognised alongside remarkable heritage projects from across Europe. We are incredibly proud that our Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme, in partnership with @agriculture_ie has won in the Education, Training, and Skills category. The scheme’s main goal is to work with farmers to conserve Ireland's traditional farm buildings and structures keeping them in agricultural use for generations to come. Since 2008, it has supported the restoration of over 1,000 buildings. The ceremony begins at 5:30pm Irish Time. You can view it on the livestream at ow.ly/xv9T50TFXNw #EuropeanHeritageAwards #EuropeanHeritageSummit #HeritageMatters #CulturalHeritage #TraditionalFarmBuildings

We’re thrilled to share a heartwarming story of a recent project funded under our Traditional Farm Buildings Scheme with @agriculture_ie which aims to preserve working agricultural buildings while supporting wildlife habitats. In 2023, one of our funded projects involved reroofing a beautiful haybarn. During the bat survey, something amazing was discovered – a barn owl nest with chicks! Thanks to careful planning and a delay in works, the barn owls were unaffected by the restoration. This year, the owls returned and hatched three healthy chicks! Over the summer, @BirdwatchIreland came to ring them, highlighting this conservation win. This is a wonderful example of how preserving our traditional farm buildings can create safe spaces for wildlife. A big thank you to all involved in making this project such a success! #WildlifeConservation #TraditionalFarmBuildings #BarnOwls #SustainableFarming #ConservationSuccess #ForNature

Starbotton is a Conservation Area due to its vernacular buildings, its development as a medieval toft settlement and its amazing views. It's history has been influenced by agriculture, mining and smelting #heritage #archaeology #TraditionalFarmBuildings #YorkshireDales

In the #YorkshireDales we often focus on cows and #FieldBarns. But during #WoolWeek it is important to notice how sheep have shaped the landscape around us. We wrote a blog post about some of the features last year blog.yorkshiredales.org.uk/s… #heritage #TraditionalFarmBuildings

We saw the remains of labels above the cow stalls. These were unusual and nice to see that they had been left. They were probably naming and detailing prized cattle #PeakDistrict #TraditionalFarmBuildings

#fieldbarns are such important features in the landscape of the #YorkshireDales. These vernacular barns were designed to work cyclically with the surrounding field and meant that the hay and muck did not have to be carried any great distance #heritage #TraditionalFarmBuildings
