Last week @TransitionVC co-hosted a special event with @usv We had the writer and documentary filmmaker @AndriMagnason present an incredible speech (accompanied by the talented musician Shahzad Ismaily). Andri discussed the climate crisis. It is a difficult topic even for us who work in it daily. How can we discuss the climate crisis? “Should we draw words for discussing the earth from science, emotions, statistics, or religion? How personal and sentimental can we get? Is it possible to use exaggerated expressions of affection, cold economics, military metaphors, and complex philosophy? Right? Left? Beautiful? Ugly? Economic growth? Is the Earth an underutilized raw material or an infinite holiness? If my life is in danger, if my earth and descendants are in danger, aren’t I obligated to understand what’s at stake? What words manage to define the world?” We were glad to have a lot of our friends at the event. But we are bummed we couldn’t have everyone.
