In #TreasuryQuestions APPG Co-Chair @gregsmith_uk raises the fact that the #Treasury has failed to reply to THREE APPG letters about the secret #HMRC sweetheart 10-15% deal with big banks in 2005. Treasury Ministers look uncomfortable & @Dan4Barnet promises a reply. ⏰
🚨 #LoanChargeScandal latest: More on #HMRC’s 15% deals with large corporations. Ray McCann, who was working for HMRC at the time states that the deal was 2005 with big banks. The Treasury is refusing to admit this. Ministers are engaged in a cover-up. loanchargeappg.co.uk/wp-cont…

We're grateful to see @MaureenBurkeMP and @DaveDooganSNP championing Scotch Whisky in today's #TreasuryQuestions, supporting our call for a multi-year freeze on excise duty. A freeze for spirits will support the government's growth ambition, allowing distilleries across Scotland protect investment and jobs 💼 🥃 scotch-whisky.co/excise

🚨BREAKING NEWS: Huge new FOI revelation in the #LoanChargeScandal raised by @gregsmith_uk in #TreasuryQuestions exposing #HMRC’s 15% settlement deal with large companies in 2015, as reported by Ray McCann to Lord Morse in 2019. All the while ruthlessly persecuting contractors.

Thanks @AJogee & @sam_carling_ for raising the importance of #pubs & #breweries in #TreasuryQuestions. 👏🍻 Also good to hear that Treasury Minister @jamesmurray_ldn agrees they are important & should be supported. Tomorrow’s #Budget must support pubs not increase tax & costs!

In response to this question from @RLong_Bailey in #TreasuryQuestions, @HuddlestonNigel said “85% of the funds recovered from the #LoanCharge so far have come from employees & therefore those who were running the schemes”. This is untrue & he must therefore correct the record.
Powerful question from @RLong_Bailey in the #LoanCharge in #TreasuryQuestions asking why the Government decided to ignore scheme promoters & instead only pursue those they mis-sold to. Another non answer from @HuddlestonNigel who gives a confused response about employers.

A very notable change in the official Govt line, as shown in #TreasuryQuestions today, is that senior #HMRC officials & #TreasuryMinisters have stopped referring to ‘20 convictions/100 yrs custodial sentences’ now it’s been exposed that these are not related to the #LoanCharge ⬇️
Letter to @CommonsTreasury highlights irrrefutable evidence HMRC continuously misled & deceived MP's, and Committee, in claiming convictions of #LoanCharge promoters. #FOI's also revealed HMRC deliberately chose to exclude promoters from Review. hmrcloancharge.info/wp-conte…

In #TreasuryQuestions, Sir @DesmondSwayne asks @HuddlestonNigel if he will review the “injustice” of the #LoanCharge & the way it denies people the normal access to the courts/tax tribunal process, one of the many unfair things about the draconian Loan Charge. #LoanChargeScandal

Great question from Shadow Treasury Minister @jamesmurray_ldn in #TreasuryQuestions on the #LoanChargeScandal saying the Government & #HMRC’s current approach to the #LoanCharge is “a nightmare”, that those affected are clearly victims of mis-selling & calls for another review.

In #TreasuryQuestions @timfarron raises the Treasury impact statement on the #LoanCharge that stated there would be no “material impact on family formation, stability or breakdown” calling it “grossly wrong & negligent” & calls for an investigation on how Parliament was so misled

🚨In #TreasuryQuestions @gregsmith_uk exposes that FOI revealed that #HMRC privately admitted to knowing of about 100 #LoanCharge insolvencies in 2019 ➡️ whatdotheyknow.com/request/m… He asked @HuddlestonNigel why this figure has been withheld & what it is now. No response to either.

Thanks @BenMLake for speaking up for #hospitality including #pubs in #TreasuryQuestions. We do need a VAT cut, we need some meaningful direct support. The UK Government is standing by & watching pubs close & isn’t listening to the pressures of energy bills & rising costs/prices.
