SSRIs are ineffective for PMDD.
They only turn the PMDD brain fog and fatigue into irritability and anger.
The further research we have into PMDD the more it seems to be a neuroendocrine issue not a serotonin issue.
SSRIs fail to treat the underlying fatigue and brain fog, and can instead trigger activation side effects like severe nausea, edginess, agitation, & heightened anger
PMDD is increasingly recognised as a disorder of neurosteroid and GABA receptor function.
When progesterone levels fall in the luteal phase, the PMDD brain fails to respond correctly to the resulting neurosteroid & hormonal oscillations. (particularly progesterone and its metabolite, allopregnanolone).
