๐This is what Trump means when he says America First, and the vast majority of voters unequivocally reject it.
#TrueAmericaFirst means Liberty and Justice for ALL
Trump has spoken to his base at rallies, tweets, and news conferences, often in 'code' or what the news media calls 'dog whistles.' While not specifically about race, they are provocations that excite his racist supporters. For example, during his 2015 campaign, Trump teased our Utah Senator Mitt Romney for politically choking his competition Obama. Trump wrapped his hands around his neck, saying, 'I can't breathe, I can't breathe.' It really was code for Eric Garner's last words the year before when he dyed at the hands of a police officer.
Trump often spoke to nearly all-white crowds and made comments like, 'You have good genes in Minnesota,' and when the Black Lives Matter protests began, he said, 'When the looting starts, the shooting starts.' We watched the violence as he sent National Guards to cities that didn't want them and also in the Presidential Debate that he told white supremacist militias like the Proud Boys to 'stand back and stand by.' Then on January 6th, 2021, at a rally with these militia groups by his invitation, he told them to 'Fight like hell, and if you don't fight like hell, you are not going to have a country anymore.' He told them to march to the Capitol and said he would go with them. He was the fuse that fired up the violence that day. Before the rally, he saw that the group came prepared to fight as they were dressed for a battle in protective gear.
Still, it wasn't just his words that convinced me Trump is racist. According to Forbes, he spent 15 billion on the Border Wall after telling us Mexico would pay for it and that 'Mexicans crossing the U.S. Border are drug dealers and rapists.'
Other Trump actions also confirmed his racist & white supremacists base support, such as the Muslim Ban, his tweets with videos that showed racist actions and words. Twitter found his communications so offensive they terminated his account. For example a tweet with a video from the internet show founded by 'Unite the Right' marcher and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes whose company is called 'America First.'
