Kids are officially back to school, and it can be stressful to make their lunchboxes, wanting to choose healthy foods and foods they like and prevent waste whilst saving time and being on a budget.
So here are our 4 top tips on how to build a healthy, balanced lunch box!
1. Try to include a source of protein. ๐ฅ
Protein such as boiled egg, or muffin egg-based or good quality cheese or hummus or animal protein such as chicken (homemade chicken nuggets) or beef
2. Add fruit, veg, and fibre rich carbohydrates๐ฅ๐
Add fibre by including 2 different vegetables and 2 fruits in the lunchbox as well as wholegrain carbohydrates such as white high-fibre bread, wholemeal bread or wholegrain crackers or seeded crackers.
3. Add healthy fats ๐ฅ
Such as avocado or olive oil or seeds (in crackers), salmon, tuna, etc.
4. Don't forget a bottle of water!
Overall, aim to provide a variety of the 5 food groups in your childโs lunchbox!
