If you're talking about the actual 1611 typecase, then yes - it is a bit hard to underftand. <--- fee what I did there??
They substituted letters often and the casing is definitely hard to read today. However:
The KJV is usually accused of being d or Middle English, but it's actually MODERN English.... esrly modern English and some things may not make sense in 2026 context - but the language isn't outdated in the slightest. A study guide like this can help with words like "husbandman" - its a farmer... a particular kind of farmer.
The "Thee, thy, thine, thou" etc - therr is a REASON those are in there
Because in the Greek, only the KJV brings out the context of the nouns.
John 3:7 says in the ESV reads "Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[a] must be born again.’"
"You" vs "You".
In the KJV it reads:
"Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again."
In the Greek it reads specificly: Not
I said V-AIA-1S4771 [e] soi σοι ,to you
PPro-D2S1163 [e] Dei Δεῖ
It is necessary for V-PIA-3S4771 [e]
hymas ὑμᾶς you [all]
PPro-A2P1080 [e] gennēthēnai
γεννηθῆναι to be born V-ANP509 [e]
anōthen ἄνωθεν from above.
Modern bibles miss WHO is being addressed! It's just YOU and YOU.
In southern English, it'd be like saying this. "I said unto YOU, YA'LL gotta be born again!"
There's a SINGULAR You and a PLURAL You
Once you understand this, the KJV actually reveals more of the Greek than "modern" English bibles.
Another word: LOVE.
In Greek, there are 4 words basically for love: Eros, Storge, Agape, Phileo
At least for Agape (sacrificial love, without expectation of return) - the Greek is Agape. The KJV translates Agape as CHARITY.
Now we might think CHARITY = Giving to the poor.... but in a deeper study, you can understand that the KJV translators chose to translate the word to distinguish it from say "brotherly" love or "paternal"...
These are just a few things to consider. It PAYS DIVIDENDS to learn why "Thee, Thy, Thine,You, Thou, Thee, Ye" etc are used. Because there is actual meaning to using them! It's not just "fancy" language or posh. There's underlying Greek words there!
I ❤️ the KJV! I'm not an "Only"ist, but It's the one I definitely trust.
