23 January 2025 - a day to remember: The electrons are back at the #SwissLightSource#SLS! 💫
With this, SLS is well on track to resume operation in summer 2025. Congratulations to the entire #SLS 2.0 team on this major milestone! 👏
#UpgradingSLS#LightSourceScience
💫 Things are progressing fast at SLS 2.0! On 21 March, the first entire arc, consisting of the girders, magnets and the vacuum chamber, was installed in the tunnel of the electron storage ring. 💪 #UpgradingSLS
🏗️👷🏽 Out with the old, in with the new! In autumn 2023, the SLS 2.0 team said goodbye to some of the old equipment, such as the two undulators shown in the video. #UpgradingSLS#SLS2.0 #MoreBrilliantLightForResearch
🚀✨ Take a look inside the #SLS ring like you've never seen before!! Catch some action as we dismantle the old ring, making way for the construction of the new one! #UpgradingSLS#SLS2.0

Is it Christmas already? Wrapped with yellow ribbons, these magnet yokes were delivered to us from Heinz Baumgartner AG! They will be used in high precision permanent magnets at #SLS2.0, the upgrade project of the Swiss Light Source. #UpgradingSLS#MoreBrilliantLightForResearch

Us to our users:
"After #UpgradingSLS, you will be able to do advanced experiments with which you can answer many questions you might have."
Our users:
Today is the day: the electron accelerator is switched off and the SLS enters its 'dark time', returning brighter than ever in 2025. #ThankYouSLS and our researchers and engineers for your tireless efforts to push the boundaries of knowledge and technology. #UpgradingSLS
🛑💥The Swiss Light Source SLS will return to service in 2025 – but meanwhile experiments at this large-scale research facility have to be suspended.

I'm working on a new video that has a lot of amazing machines in it.
Reminds me imaging my first #ASIC on my visit to @psich_en.
Here's one of my favourite photos from that trip, mmmm... gold plugs.
And here's the video if you missed it! zerotoasiccourse.com/post/in…
PSI scientist Nicola Casati looks back on 22 years of scientific excellence in materials science using synchrotron radiation at the Swiss Light Source SLS. Why would you like to say #ThankYouSLS? #UpgradingSLS#MoreBrilliantLightForResearch
Grigory Smolentsev looks back on how the SLS was instrumental in solving the mystery of how copper-based organic LEDs work on the nanosecond timescale. Why would you like to say #ThankYouSLS? #UpgradingSLS#MoreBrilliantLightForResearch

PSI scientist @MarianneLiebi looks back on 22 years of scientific excellence at SLS and their revolutionary method which reveals information on the structure of mineralised collagen fibres that make up 🦴bones and 🦷teeth.
Why would you like to say #ThankYouSLS?
#ThankYouSLS With your light we could detect reactive intermediates during many catalytic reactions to unveil the mechanism! ♥️ We will miss you during the #UpgradingSLS period. However we are looking forward to #MoreBrilliantLightForResearch 🧪⚗️
