YouTube turns 20 years old today! And as fate would have it, this was the same year I got my first ever video camera.
It was this toy called the VCamNow (I probably still have it somewhere). I recorded everything with that - playing in the woods, riding dirt bikes, fixing things. This is what made me fall in love with making videos.
I used that thing for years until I got a GoPro Hero 3 in 2012, which better suited what I wanted to record - surfing and snowboarding and all of the other crazy things my friends and I did that'll never see the light of day.
And I made these videos not for no reason other than because I thought it was fun. In fact, all of these videos just live on my computer. Not YouTube. Not MySpace lol. Not anywhere.
It wouldn't be until 11 years after I started making videos, in 2016, that I would upload my first one to YouTube. Just about my life at the time, which was as a computer science student sharing things I enjoyed doing.
And now, 9 years later - and 20 years since I recorded my first video - I get to do what I've always done, but as a job that can support myself and my family.
What a ride it's been. Life is good. God is good.
I can't wait to see what's in store for the next 20 years.
