Over the weekend, Special Operations officers with our Violent Crime Enforcement Team (VCET) conducted a vehicle enforcement stop in the area of Capital Expressway. A probation search of the vehicle revealed a short barrel rifle and a loaded handgun. Multiple subjects in the vehicle were prohibited from possessing firearms. All three subjects were taken into custody and suspected to be gang members out of Marin County. I can’t say it enough, proactive police work like this keeps this city safe. We will never know exactly why gang members from Marin County were driving around San Jose with loaded firearms, but I do know thanks to the work of VCET, these suspects were not able to harm anyone in our community.

Yesterday our Metro Unit served multiple search warrants at several locations in San Jose, along with an arrest warrant, with assistance from MERGE, VCET and our Covert Response Unit. Multiple subjects were taken into custody. During the searches, they recovered multiple ounces of methamphetamine and cocaine, six handguns including two stolen, a rifle and an assault rifle, all in the possession of prohibited individuals. I could not be more proud of the men and women in our special operations units and Covert Response Unit. You never truly know how many lives are impacted when firearms and dangerous narcotics are taken off the street, but we know it matters. Proactive policing by the men and women of San Jose Police is how we keep this city safe.

VCET officers contacted a group drinking in public and discovered a juvenile among them in possession of a concealed firearm inside a satchel. During the investigation, an adult attempted to derail the situation by challenging officers to a fight and was quickly detained. That same adult was also found in possession of narcotics. The juvenile was booked into juvenile hall and the adult was booked into jail. This is just another example of why proactive enforcement matters. Outstanding work by VCET Officers keeping firearms out of the hands of juveniles and maintaining safety in our neighborhoods.

In November of 2025, a proactive SJPD Patrol Officer developed information that an active clandestine gambling establishment was being operated in the 1700 block of Monterey Road. The Officer followed up on the lead and began a comprehensive investigation into the incident. This morning, with the assistance of the Special Operations MERGE, VCET, METRO, Street Crimes, and Special Investigations Vice Unit, patrol officers executed a search warrant at the location. Several subjects were detained. Officers arrested one suspect for crimes related to operating an illegal gambling establishment and a second suspect for an unrelated outstanding warrant. During the search of the location, Officers located and recovered one firearm and two stolen motorcycles. These illegal activities often attract violence, fraud, and organized criminal elements, putting surrounding neighborhoods at risk. Great work done by Patrol Officers for their diligence and persistence which played a key role in strengthening community safety. This is policing that truly makes a difference.

Special Operations teams are working hard to suppress violent crime by getting guns off our streets and out of the hands of those who could do harm. With the support of Metro Team 1, VCET, and SCU, Metro Team 2 concluded a narcotics investigation that led to the recovery of a shotgun, a Glock 19 with a conversion kit, a PMF lower, high-capacity magazines, a large cache of ammunition, and 3 ounces of heroin. Both suspects were arrested. Separately, VCET officers conducted a vehicle stop near Almaden Rd & Park Ave, locating a Glock 27 handgun on the driver, who was also arrested. Every illegally possessed gun seized is a potential violent crime prevented. #KeepingSanJoseSafe

Last week, following an investigation into drug sales in the downtown area, SJPD Downtown Services Unit Officers, with assistance of MERGE, Metro, and VCET, executed a search warrant that resulted in the arrest of a convicted felon with a violent history. The search resulted in the seizure of various illegal narcotics and one loaded unregistered firearm. Our Special Operations Division remains unwavering in their commitment to protecting our community. The convicted felon suspect was found with large quantities of meth, cocaine, crack, heroin, fentanyl, marijuana, over $2,500 in cash, and seven firearms, including a Desert Eagle .50 caliber, a stolen pistol, and a shotgun. VCET officers also conducted a stop near Dubert Ln & Crucero Dr. The suspect, a known gang member, was armed with a loaded concealed firearm and booked on multiple gun charges.
