NEWS | Assam To Conduct Vision Test For Commercial Drivers
The Assam government has decided to conduct mandatory vision tests for commercial vehicle drivers as part of a series of measures to cut down on rising road accidents. Corrective measures will be suggested, and necessary treatments will be facilitated to ensure road safety.
Besides, the Public Works Department (PWD) has mandated the inclusion of road safety measures in all road construction projects. The scope of work will now cover the provision of speed breakers, crash barriers, signages, and fluorescent lighting to ensure safer roads and minimize accidents.
Reflective patches will be installed on commercial vehicles to improve nighttime visibility, and public awareness campaigns on road safety will be launched.
Streetlights will be installed in towns and cities to enhance visibility at night.
Road safety videos or dramas will be shown at public events to raise awareness, and medical institutions are instructed to ensure readiness for accident care, including improved security for staff.
Authorities must implement these directives immediately, with regular monitoring to ensure compliance, aiming to create safer roads for all.
