Adalet bir zamanlar böyleydi. 17. yüzyıla gelindiğinde cezalar daha da sertleşti. 200’den fazla suç idamla cezalandırılabilir hale geldi. Adalet sadece hukukla ilgili değildi artık — korku ve kontrolle de ilgiliydi. 🚢 18. yüzyılda yeni bir ceza yöntemi ortaya çıktı: sürgün (transportation). İdam yerine suçlular Amerika ya da Avustralya gibi uzak kolonilere gönderildi. Ceza artık ölüm değil, uzaklaştırmaydı. 🔒 19. yüzyılda ise önemli bir değişim başladı. Hapishaneler yavaş yavaş yalnızca cezalandırma yerleri olmaktan çıktı, rehabilitasyonun yani bireyin değişebileceği fikrinin konuşulmaya başlandığı alanlara dönüştü. 🚺 20. yüzyılda adalet sistemi bir adım daha ilerledi.
