Today is #VolcanoThursday 😻 During #hedgewatch on #Tenerife I found this #lava piece with bubbles. #Magma contains gas & when it travels to the surface it cools down & pressure drops so the gas is released & makes bubbles.

Today is the 1st #VolcanoThursday of 2025. This is the #Orotava #valley on #Tenerife formed by a gigantic #landslide. The island was growing so fast that its flanks became unstable & collapsed. At least 500 km3 #rock's moved down causing a #tsunami

This #VolcanoThursday is the 61th birthday of Surtsey a #volcanic island 30km S of #Iceland. It's named after Surtr a fire giant in northern mythology. The eruption ended June 1967. Only scientists are allowed to #hedgewatch there

Today we are again on #Lanzarote for #VolcanoThursday. This place is called #CiudadEstratificada-#StratifiedCity. Its a bizzare #landscape purrfect for #hedgewatch & made of layers of #volcanic ash. The layers #weathering resistance is varying - thus the shapes.

Today is #VolcanoThursday & the picture is again from the #volcanic island #Lanzarote. Can you see the semicircles made of #rocks? Each hosts a #grapevine. Here a layer of volcanic ash collects can store humidity& protects the plants from the wind.

Today is #VolcanoThursday & this is the #saline #Salinas de #Fuencaliente. We visited it on #LaPalma during #hedgewatch. In 2021 the #eruption of the #Tajogaite #volcano 18 km away ruined large parts of the "harvest" due to its ash. In Decembre the volcano was still smoking

Today is #FossilFriday & yesterday was #VolcanoThursday. During #hedgewatch on #Fuerteventura my humans saw this red stripe between 2 #lava flows. Its #paleosoil that was #fried by the upper flow some mill a ago. Ironoxid is often red & iron can be found in basalt
