Participants receive an introduction to the modelling methodology for simulating BMPs and scenarios, setting the foundation for a highly participatory and data-driven workshop. Today’s discussions are shaping the next phase of action for sustainable, climate-smart water management across Eastern Africa. The Regional Workshop in Malindi progresses into an intensive technical and participatory session as stakeholders engage directly with the simulated BMP intervention scenarios. During the late morning: 🔹 @ISRICorg presents the simulated BMP scenarios, followed by a rich Q&A session 🔹 Break-out group discussions begin, facilitated by the Modelling Group and @kalromkulima — Participants examine feasibility conditions — Identify barriers and enablers for adoption — Explore localized implications at basin scale 🔹 @CIHEAMBari, and @kalromkulima lead a field-level survey on farmers’ perceptions of water management policies in the Tana River Basin, using digital tools to collect real-time data These discussions are generating actionable insights that will directly shape the prioritization of BMPs and guide the development of locally informed implementation protocols. @WatDev1 | @kalromkulima | @ASARECA | @CIHEAMBari | @ISRICorg | @AICS_Cairo | @AICS_Nairobi | @aics_it #WATDEV #Kenya #ClimateResilience #AgricultureInnovation #ParticipatoryResearch@WatDev1 | @kalromkulima | @ASARECA | @CIHEAMBari | @ISRICorg | @AICS_Cairo | @AICS_Nairobi | @aics_it, @MOSESODEKE #WATDEV #ClimateSmartAgriculture #WaterManagement #Kenya #TanaRiverBasin

Speaking at the roadshow, the Director General Water Land Resources Centre @UICWLRC , Dr. Gete Zeleke, said @UICWLRC is deeply committed to ensuring sustainable and effective utilization of #landandwaterresources for the benefit of all. WLRC has established learning watersheds where sustainable land and water management practices are systematically implemented via participation of local communities. These practices are designed to: ***Rehabilitate degraded land ***Reduce soil erosion ***Enhance land and water productivity ******Thereby improving ecosystem services and livelihoods. “We are passing on these skills to farmers under the WATDEV Project & we have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of these efforts, seeing the restoration of barren hillsides and ecosystem services, enhanced farmland productivity & improved livelihoods. This success is a direct result of our collaborative work with farmers, extension agents, local authorities, innovators, the Government, local, regional and global partners. The road show focuses on learning about the best practices from research partners and explore promising technologies presented by our entrepreneurs.

With the support of the #WATDEV Project @ASARECA, in collaboration with @kalromkulima, has facilitated the acquisition of 1,000 tree seedlings of cashew nut and mango for the Hola Irrigation Farmers Cooperative. This cooperative, which consists of over 1,000 farmers, including women and youth, will utilize these seedlings for agroforestry demonstration plots. The initiative aims to promote knowledge exchange on Best Management Practices (BMPs) and foster sustainable agroforestry practices. The initiative aligns with the #WATDEV Project’s broader objective of enhancing climate resilience and sustainable water management across Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt. By setting up these demonstration plots, farmers gain practical insights into climate-smart agriculture, improved soil health, water conservation, and enhanced farm productivity. Funded by the European Union @EU_Commission through @CIHEAMBari and @aics_it, the #WATDEV Project continues to support communities in adapting innovative practices for a more resilient agricultural future. #ClimateSmartAg #SustainableAgriculture #Innovation4Ag #Agroforestry #FarmersFirst #WATDEVProject 🔗 Learn more about the WATDEV Project here: watdev.eu asareca.org/watdev-project/ @g_ladisa @WatDev1 @blaiseamony @sdbaguma @BenIlakut
