🇰🇷🚨 Citizens vs. Secretive Elections in South Korea right now.
Ordinary citizens (young people, families, conservatives, independents) are physically holding the line, demanding transparency and a full rerun with same-day hand counting. Officials and the NEC appear to be wrapping things up behind closed doors amid accusations of mismanagement or worse.
This is the basement stairwell between Gates 1-3 and 1-5 at the SK Olympic Handball Gymnasium in Olympic Park, Seoul, the official vote-counting center for Songpa-gu during the June 3, 2026 local elections.
Protesters have been blockading the venue for over a week after widespread ballot shortages (especially Jamsil 7-dong) left voters disenfranchised. Hundreds of remaining ballot boxes (~380 cited) are stored inside. In these videos from today (June 11), you can clearly see bright flashing sparks and a burning smell coming from behind the double doors, widely interpreted by citizens on site as welding or sealing activity. It certainly looks like that from here. No official explanation from the National Election Commission (NEC) or authorities.
Timeline:
▫️June 3 (Election Day): Ballot shortages hit ~50 polling stations nationwide, worst in conservative-leaning Songpa-gu areas. Voting extended late; protests erupt at stations blocking ballot transfers.
▫️June 4-5: Protests move to the Handball Gymnasium counting center. Blockades begin at multiple entrances including 1-3/1-5.
▫️June 6-8: Peak crowds (up to 20k-33k reported). Full perimeter blockade; officials trapped inside; sports teams disrupted. NEC chair resigns. President orders probes.
▫️June 9-11 (Ongoing, Day 8 ): Persistent crowds. Court orders some evidence preservation. Reports of suspicious nighttime activity, flashing lights, and now alleged welding in basement storage areas near stored ballot boxes. Protesters continue supply drops and monitoring.
When transparency is removed while citizens demand it, trust collapses. People don't just "move on", they show up, document everything, and hold the line while also exposing it all via the digital domain. This isn't going away quietly. Without real answers, independent verification, and accountability, skepticism turns into sustained resistance.
Democracy overwhelming public pressure with maximum sunlight. Corruption hiding in basements with sparks flying only makes the shadows darker.

Election Management Committee staff are hiding 380 fraudulent ballot boxes inside the building.
There’s a burning smell coming from inside, and as you can see, lights are flashing, raising suspicions that they might be welding something.
The Korean text posted there is asking for support at the basement stairs between 1-5 and 1-3. They’re doing something suspicious and I’m here alone, so please help.”
