Delay does not control how fast your welding hood goes dark. Shade controls how dark the lens gets, sensitivity controls how easily it reacts to light, and delay controls how long it stays dark after welding. What shade do you usually run? #WeldingTips

When welding out socket welds: Leave your 1/8 inch gap for thermal expansion. Quarter out your welds to help avoid warpage. Make sure the weld has enough metal in it. Flush is good, slightly convex is better. What would you add? #WeldingTips

Cutting out a socket weld doesn’t have to be scary. Cut at the toe of the weld along the edge of the socket, control your depth, and don’t cut all the way through the pipe. That’s when things turn sour real fast. What are your tips for cutting out sockets? #WeldingTips

Let's talk 'tack welds'. That tiny little weld you slap on before running the full bead? That’s your TACK WELD, and it’s secretly the MVP of getting weld ready. Here’s the cheat sheet: Purpose: Holds parts in perfect alignment while you weld the real joint Size: Usually bead - 1/4" (roughly the thickness of the base metal or smaller) Rule of thumb: Tack should be ~25–50% the strength of the final weld Too big = distortion & hard to blend Too small = parts shift and you cry later Pro move: Slightly overestimate on thick material, slightly underestimate on thin stuff to control heat Your thoughts? Agree or disagree? How did our shop do on this project? #GehmanIron #WeldingTips #WeldingCommunity #WeldingEducation
