5FM Code Youth Bootcamp heads to Rosebank for hands-on coding experience
Young people eager to break into the digital world will gather in Rosebank on 12 June 2026 as 5FM brings its Code Youth Bootcamp to the WeThinkCode campus.
The initiative, run in partnership with WeThinkCode_, is designed to equip beginners with basic coding and digital literacy skills through a free, practical, full-day training session. The programme forms part of 5FM's Youth Month activations aimed at expanding access to future-ready skills.
Participants will be introduced to foundational programming concepts, including introductory Python, problem-solving techniques, and simple project-building exercises. The bootcamp also encourages creativity and critical thinking, with attendees expected to develop basic digital projects by the end of the session.
According to event details, the Johannesburg session is the first in a series, followed by Cape Town on 19 June and Pretoria on 26 June.
Entry is targeted at young people aged 18 to 25, with no prior coding experience required, making it an accessible entry point into South Africa's growing tech sector.
The Rosebank event is expected to draw strong interest as demand for digital skills continues to rise among the country's youth.

WeThinkCode offers an NQF5 which is a recognized certificate... the author is talking about those where you get a certificate of attendance or other unrecognized certificates..
And we think code is 18 months long not 6 months

the fastest and best way to become a software dev/engineer is to get a Computer Science degree/ IT degree, those boot camps that promise to make you software devs in 6 months are LYING to you!!!!

I have attended WeThinkCode. Never really struggled to get a job but a degree is important.

WeThinkCode and Zaio are my only exceptions , they offer Two years of training

the only reputable ones i know that actually teach are WeThinkCode and Zaio , (keep in mind they’re not 6 months) last i checked they offered 2 year Accredited Diplomas and placements, now thats a proper software engineering academy 🤞🏾
