Today, I had a fruitful meeting with the Agricultural Managing Director of Delmonte Kenya Ltd, Mr. Wayne Cook, and his team, aiming to establish a long-term partnership benefiting Gatanga and Kenya. Delmonte, a major multinational, has a significant impact in Gatanga with 6,500 direct employees, 28,000 indirect jobs, and a Kes 10.5B turnover in 2022.
In the spirit of community development, Delmonte has invested Kes 100M in road infrastructure, operates hospitals and clinics, and contributed Kes 1.4B in taxes and Kes 2.7B in salaries. Excitingly, we've agreed to expand our collaborative efforts.
Starting with the My Msingi Bora Primary and Junior Secondary School Modernization Program, we'll focus on Swani, Nanga, Mt Olive, Nginyi, and Mwana Wikio Pry School. Additionally, leveraging Delmonte's irrigation expertise, we'll develop a master plan for utilizing Ngiyi Dam to supply irrigation water to Mitumbiri, Kenyatta Farm, Greystone, Nanga, and Swani areas—ensuring food surplus, employment, and self-sufficiency for our youth.
